The remote mountains in the northwest of Vietnam features rugged terrain with lovely scenery and colorful hill tribe villages. In the adventure in the northern of Vietnam, you will leave the bustling city of Hanoi behind for a journey to the charming land of Sapa, Ha Giang and a cruise on the waters of Ba Be Lake. There will be a great opportunity to enjoy stunning mountain views along the way and get an insight into local life. The trip is specially suitable for adventurers who want to experience a real taste of remote Vietnam.
Welcome to Vietnam. Upon arrival at the airport in Hanoi, you will be picked up and transferred to the hotel. After checking into our hotel and a short rest, enjoy the street food tour around Hanoi. This is a special chance to experience a different kind of tastes of Vietnamese cuisine.
The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight at the hotel.
Hanoi – Overnight train
In the morning, join a half day tour of Hanoi to explore its famous attractions and learn more how charming it is in the eyes of tourists. You will visit some famous historical sites including the Temple of Literature, One Pillar Pagoda, and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake – the heart of Hanoi and explore the famous Old Quarter. Continue onto the museum of Hoa Lo Prison to learn more Vietnamese history during wartime.
Head to KOTO café for lunch. In the evening, your adventure will continue to Sapa with an overnight train which takes around 9 hours.
In the morning, on arrival in Lao Cai, continue transferring to Sapa. Here, take a walk around the foothills and beautiful rice terraces then stroll across green tea plantations. Along the way, you may meet some local villagers at their work. After that, enjoy a walking tour of Sapa town and mingle into its busy pace of life through a visit to its market. Here you can find everything of the region from handmade textiles to some local produce.
From the market, take a short trek for around 2,5 hours to the hill tribe village of Cat Cat to get to know more about the unique way of life of the H’mong people.
Overnight at your hotel in Sapa.
Today is an easy day which is more relaxed than yesterday. After breakfast, spend time exploring deeper the village of Cat Cat on your own.
In the afternoon, continue your adventure by transferring to the village of Ta Phin – a remote village in Sapa. Take your time to stroll around the village, chat with friendly locals and get the glimpse of their lives.
In the evening, return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
In the morning, leave Sapa for a long bus ride around 7 hours to the land of Ha Giang. This highland region is home to stunning rice terraces, forests and numerous mountains making it an exciting place to explore. Once in Ha Giang, visit the local market and shop fronts before heading to the local museum and Cuom village where you have great chance to admire the local people in their colorful traditional dress. The evening is at your leisure to relax.
Set off your adventure today with a drive through scenic mountains in Ha Giang. Make a photo stop to visit Minh Tao Market and then stroll around Nam Luong village. There will be a special chance to visit the Responsible Tourism project of Mrs. Mai. After hearing some stories of the project, venture out through Lung Tam textile village and the Vuong Family Palace in Sa Phin to get to Dong Van.
After breakfast, mingle yourself into the bustling atmosphere of the local market. Then, start your trekking loop around Dong Van to get the real taste of the region. During the 4 hour trek, there are various opportunities to take in the spectacular landscape with gorgeous views of lush valleys and rice terraces. Do not forget to bring your camera to capture these stunning moments.
The rest of the day is free for you to relax or discover the region deeper.
In the morning, continue your adventure by transferring by road to Bao Lac – a small town in the north of Vietnam. The town is the habitat of black Lo Lo ethnic group who are famous for their beautiful bronze drums. The bronze drums play an important role in Lo Lo customs and spirituality which are used in important events.

Ba Be Lake
In the early morning, depart for Ba Be Lake for around 4-hour drive. Upon arrival, embark on the boat to explore Ba Be National Park and visit the largest natural lake in Vietnam. Along the way, make some disembarkation for some short walks, visit the beautiful waterfalls near the lake and watch the natural flora and fauna.
In the afternoon, head back to the land and make your way to the local home where you will spend the overnight. Enjoy lunch prepared by the host and the afternoon is free to explore on your own.
In the evening, take a seat for a delicious lunch with the family – a great way to get a true taste of local life and culture.
After breakfast, come back to Hanoi for around 4-5 hours. Upon arrival, spend the rest of the day exploring its colonial buildings. We recommend you to visit the Hanoi Military Museum or have a look at the magnificent Opera House. Enjoy dinner with the group in the last evening in Hanoi.
